Arson update from Seattle Fire Dept.

by | Aug 19, 2009

Since last week’s devastating arson of a home on NW 84th Street that displaced a family of six and seriously burned another man, we asked Dana Vander Houwen, the Public Information Officer for the Seattle Fire Department, for an update on investigations of other fires in the neighborhood. Besides the four identified as arson, Vander Houwen says none of the other fires in the neighborhood in recent months were intentionally set.
A fire last week at a vacant house on the corner of 6th Ave. NW and NW 85th St. was accidental. (And the house was razed yesterday.) Another fire at a house on Holman Road on June 19 was accidental. That fire happened just after an arson at the former OK Corral.
Vander Houwen also said several dumpster fires in the area were not deliberately set.

If there are additional fires that we determine were intentionally set I will keep you posted so that you can help spread the word in the neighborhood.

For an update on the burn victim of last week’s house fire, Carlos Salmeron, both KOMO and KING aired stories on their 5 p.m. newscasts today.
