House fire at 1st and NW 84th

by | Aug 13, 2009

There was a massive response for a house fire at 108 NW 84th St. just after 4:30 p.m. today.

This is a small house set back from NW 84th St. We arrived on the scene just as firefighters entered the house. Heavy smoke and flames were showing. KING 5 is reporting that a man in his 50s was burned and taken to Harborview Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. The fire is now out but firefighters are still checking hot spots. About 50 firefighters were on the scene at one point.
Tonight the Red Cross was called in to help the family of two adults and four children.
Thanks, Bruno for these pictures from the scene.

8:15 p.m. update: (From Dale) After seeing some comments about how curious it is that there have been three fires in the space of a couple days, we checked in with Seattle Fire Department spokeswoman Dana Vander Houwen.
While investigators are still determining the cause of this fire, she says there’s no indication this and the other two fires earlier this week are connected, noting that the fire at 6th and 85th was determined to be caused by improperly discarded smoking materials.
3 p.m., 8/14: Investigators now say it’s arson.
