Greenwood Elementary to raise funds through rock and roll

by | Jun 7, 2010

Greenwood Elementary School’s first ever Rock-n-Roll fundraiser is Saturday evening, and the Parent Teacher Association is hoping to raise funds to augment school programming that’s facing cuts in the school district’s budget crisis.
Seattle musician Jane Mabry-Smith came up with the rockin’ idea. Seattle bands Sweet Lou and X-Ray (both with Greenwood parents) are donating their performances for the all-ages event. Doors open at 5 p.m., music starts at 5:30 p.m. It is open to the public. Suggested donation is $5 at the door.
“To my knowledge this is the first time Greenwood elementary auditorium has been properly rocked,” Principal Dr. Walter Trotter said in a press release. “The idea of having parent-led bands lending their support to the school is wonderful. The kids will love it and everyone will be home by 8.”
