How did you get started making and creating?

Papa Tony’s Hot Sauce specializes in gourmet hot sauces and seasonings using fresh ingredients. What began as a pandemic project has grown into a thriving family business. In April 2021 while living in New Orleans, owner Tony Wilson decided to make a Garlic Habanero and a Mango Habanero hot sauce for his Carne Asada taco family dinner. The end result was very tasty, and when posted to social media, Tony’s friends and followers instantly grew interested and wanted to own some for their homes. Tony and his family decided to trust this next endeavor and lean into it. His wife made the logo and soon began the bottling and selling process. The sauce sold at a rapid pace, with 300 bottles selling in the first month.

Now based in Western Washington, Papa Tony’s specializes in five gourmet blends, and two spicy dry rubs that are all made with locally sourced, fresh ingredients.

How did you get started making and creating?

I adored my high school art class, and later in life decided to try drawing and painting again. A friend saw my ink drawings and asked if I’d be interested in illustrating a book about Tokyo (T is for Tokyo). I taught myself watercolor for that project and enjoyed it so much, I started a greeting card business as a reason to keep painting.

How do you overcome creative blocks or challenges when working on a project?

I overcome creative blocks by resting and taking the focus off of making. And then coming back to my work when I feel rested, often making something and then making it 5 more times until it clicks.

Mark your calendars and join the 43rd Annual Winter Festival & Crafts Fair for a memorable weekend of art, creativity, and community spirit. Stay tuned for more artist spotlights, event updates, and details on how to make the most of your visit.
