Fundraisers, kids gear sale, jazz jam and benefit concert in Phinney-Greenwood this weekend

by | Mar 18, 2016

Phinney Books, 7405 Greenwood Ave. N., is hosting an all-day fundraiser today (Friday) for the Greenwood Relief Fund, to help businesses and residents affected by the March 9 natural gas explosion. All profits from book sales today go to the fund. Neighborhood author Mike Attebery has donated several copies of his last three books to the store, so all funds from the sale of his books will go to the fund. Two of his books are partially set in Greenwood (“Seattle on Ice” and “Bloody Pulp.”)

As part of Phinney Books’ fundraiser, there’s a silent auction for local artist Mark O’Malley’s paintings of neighborhood businesses, including Mr. Gyros and Neptune Coffee, which were both destroyed in the explosion. The original painting was sold last summer but he has painted a new one for the fundraiser. The latest bid for that this morning was $200.

And there are plenty more up for auction.

Everything over $50 bid goes to the relief fund. The silent auction closes when the book store closes at 8 p.m. tonight.
