by | May 19, 2014

Seattle Department of Transportation has begun the second phase of paving work on Holman Road Northwest this week. Work will take place between NW 87th Street and 7th Avenue NW. The work is expected to be done in September.

During this phase, crews will make several pedestrian safety improvements, including the construction of pedestrian refuges on Holman Road Northwest at the intersections of Seventh Avenue Northwest and 13th Avenue Northwest, and the enlargement of a current median at Holman Road Northwest and 15th Avenue Northwest to provide a safer area. Bus shelter improvements including lighting will also be made, and the Holman Road Bridge will be repaired and repaved.

Drivers can expect some lane closures and parking restrictions within the construction zone. Regular construction hours will be 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, except during work on Holman Road Bridge. The bridge work will require one full 24-hour closure of Holman Road Northwest in both directions between Ninth and Seventh avenues. The bridge work is weather dependent and is currently scheduled to begin on Friday, May 30, at 8 p.m., and to be complete by Saturday, May 31, at 6 p.m.

During the full closure, crews will install a joint replacement and repave the bridge. Drivers will be detoured via Northwest 85th Street and Third Avenue Northwest except freight drivers will use Northwest 85th Street and Greenwood Avenue North. Local bus access will be maintained at Seventh Avenue Northwest for King County Metro’s Route 28 and RapidRide D Line. For information on bus service, look for Rider Alert notices at bus stops, see Metro Online,https://metro.kingcounty.gov/alerts/, or call (206) 553-3000.

Also during this phase of work, temporary wheel curbs will be installed on Mary Avenue Northwest and Northwest 92nd Street to help provide a safer route for pedestrians and bicyclists until a new sidewalk is installed in 2016 as part of the Safe Routes to School program. Residents along this route should expect temporary parking changes.
