by | Nov 11, 2013

Northwest Chamber Chorus will perform a Christmas concert called “Winter’s Warmth” on two weekends in December. The concerts are at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8, and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, at Phinney Ridge Lutheran Church, 7500 Greenwood Ave. N.

Enjoy the warmth of the holiday season with Mark Kloepper and the Northwest Chamber Chorus as they’re joined by oboist Ursula Sahagian in this program of traditional and new carols, plus songs about winter and a carol sing-along, back this year by popular demand.

The concert includes settings of I Saw Three Ships by Alice Parker, I Wonder as I Wander by McDermid, Suo Gan for men’s voices by Lawrence Williford, and The Kings Singers arrangement of Jingle Bells by Gordon Langford. Mid-Winter Songs by Morten Lauridsen and To Drive the Cold Winter Away by Dean Rishel are featured. New carols by young American composers include Sweeter Still by Eric William Barnum, Sleep Little Baby Sleep by Jake Runestad, A Child of the Snows by Christina Whitten Thomas, and How Still He Rests by Brent Pierce. Also in the program are Hodie Christus Natus Est by Healey Willan, Sanctus by Jan Sandström, and Break Forth O Beauteous Heavenly Light by JS Bach (edited by Alice Parker and Robert Shaw). Sing-alongs are O Come, All Ye Faithful, Silent Night, and Angels We Have Heard on High.

Oboist Ursula Sahagian graduated from Peabody Conservatory with degrees in oboe performance and music education. She currently plays with the Seattle Metropolitan Chamber Orchestra and the Seattle Collaborative Orchestra, and is the artistic director of DAS Oboe, an oboe trio specializing in contemporary repertoire. Ursula is also a dedicated teacher at the Seattle Symphony’s Soundbridge Music Discovery Center. This is her first appearance with the Northwest Chamber Chorus.

Tickets are $22 general, $17 seniors, $12 students, $12 active singer; children ages 6-12 are free with paying adult. Available online or call 206-523-1196.
