The zoo is in search of Zulu or Sotho (pronounced so-toe or sue-too) names for one male cub and one female cub, in honor of a part of the Krugeri lion’s native South African range. Participants must submit their proposed names online at zoo.org/namethecubs, or visit the zoo’s ZooStores or Zoomazium during general zoo hours to submit names by ballot. Help the zoo name the cubs by following four simple steps:
Research words or names in the African languages of Zulu or Sotho. Select two names, one for him and one for her.
Visit zoo.org/namethecubs to submit your entry. Or, pick up a ballot at the zoo and mail to Woodland Park Zoo, ATTN: Name the Cubs, 601 N. 59th Street, Seattle, WA 98103.Following the contest, a judging panel of zoo staff will select the cubs’ names from all eligible entries. With two cubs to name, there are two chances to win! The zoo’s two grand prize packages feature:
• A private viewing for five at the lion exhibit with a keeper
• One-year annual Woodland Park Zoo family membership
• A ZooParent lion cub adoption
• A framed photograph of the newly-named lion cub
• A $100 gift card to Play It Again Sports, Seattle
The four lion cubs are now on public display from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily, weather permitting, in the African Savanna’s lion shelter.
