Greenwood Seafair Parade just one week away

by | Jul 18, 2012

The biggest annual event of the neighborhood happens next Wednesday evening, July 25, with the Greenwood Seafair Parade. This year’s theme is “Wonderful Wild Greenwood!” and the Grand Marshal will be Woodland Park Zoo character Meerkute the Meerkat.

Thousands of people will line Greenwood Avenue North and North 85th Street to watch more than 100 floats, bands, drill teams, dogs, pirates and cute kids. The parade begins at 6 p.m. and will last until about 8:30 p.m. The route begins at Greenwood Avenue and North 95th Street and heads south, then turns right on 85th Street and ends at 6th Avenue NW.

The 62nd annual parade is sponsored by the Greenwood-Phinney Chamber of Commerce. (This will be the chamber’s last official act, as it is dissolving and being replaced by an enhanced Phinney Neighborhood Association business membership.) It is the oldest neighborhood Seafair-sanctioned parade.

Back again this year are the popular pony rides, with Welsh ponies from Ridgeline Ranch in Sequim. They’ll be set up in the Green Bean Coffeehouse’s parking lot at 8533 Greenwood Ave. N. Pony rides begin at 10 a.m. and last all day.
