Farmers Market, live music, neighborhood scavenger hunt in Phinney-Greenwood this weekend

You can head downtown or to Lake Washington for Seafair activities this weekend, or you can stay in the neighborhood and take part in some of these events. Check out our Events calendar any time.
The Phinney Farmers Market is from 3-7 p.m. Friday at the Phinney Neighborhood Association, 6532 Phinney Ave. N., with vendors selling fruit, veggies, flowers, chocolates, bread, soup, meat, pizza, quesadillas and tamales, and lots more. Bluegrass music from 4-6 p.m. by Squirrel Butter.
The 6th annual Gumshoe 5K Walk officially kicks off Friday and runs through Aug. 14. This neighborhood scavenger hunt will introduce you to some of the quirkier houses, yards, businesses, signs and other oddities, and gives you the chance to win prizes. Buy your entry form for $20 at Ken’s Market, Phinney Neighborhood Association, Couth Buzzard Books Espresso Buono Cafe, or the Phinney Ridge Starbucks, then follow the clues on your own time. More fun with a group! Benefits the Greenwood Senior Center, Greenwood Food Bank and Greenwood Elementary School PTA.
Grand Opening Block Party to celebrate the recent openings of The Guitar Store, Boardroom Café and Motion Boardshop from 8310-8316 Aurora Ave. N. Bring non-perishable food donations for the Greenwood Food Bank in exchange for raffle tickets. Free string changes, skateboard bearing packing, door prizes, BBQ and music. Live bands including Open Blue, and other guests. Special deals at all three businesses.
“From Hiroshima to Hope” at 6 p.m. Saturday at Green Lake, just south of the Bathhouse Theatre, to commemorate the 66th anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima. Drumming by Seattle Kokon Taiko, Shakuhachi flute playing by Peter Hill and Marcia Takamura on Koto, Native American youth from Red Eagle Soaring Theater will perform “The Right to Justice.” Followed at 9 p.m. by 1,000 floating lanterns.
Seattle Public Theatre performs William Shakespeare’s “The Tempest” Friday through Sunday at the Bathhouse Theater on Green Lake. Shows are at 7 p.m. Friday, 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday, and 2 p.m. Sunday. Free, but donations accepted for the youth scholarship fund.
Jazz First Fridays with Kenny Mandell and Don Berman at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Couth Buzzard Books Espresso Buono Café, 8310 Greenwood Ave. N. Then on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. it’s Singer’s Songwriters Circle. Both are free. Food and drink available.
