The sun is out and there are plenty of fun events happening this weekend, from live music for adults and kids to a night at the theater, and learning how to take care of these pesky plumbing problems yourself.
Empty Sea Studios, 6300 Phinney Ave. N., presents the fiddle, banjo, guitar, ukulele and hallmark harmony of Mike & Ruthy, with Robert Sarazine Blake, at 8 p.m. Friday. Tickets are $12 in advance, $15 at the door.

The Downtown Mountain Boys perform at Empty Sea at 8 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $12 in advance, $16 at the door.
And on Sunday at Empty Sea, it’s KidsAcoustic: A Feast of Irish Music at 11 a.m. Tickets are $14 in advance, $16 at the door. Babes in arms are free. Early string performer Shulamit Kleinerman joins forces with Empty Sea owner and multi-instrumentalist Michael Connolly for Empty Sea’s second season of family concerts.
The Nazi-era tale “The Beams are Creaking” opens at Taproot Theatre Friday for a one-month run.
The Phinney Neighborhood Association is holding a beginning plumbing course on Saturday.
From the PNA’s blog:

Looking for a way to save some money and increase your ability to maintain your own home? Having basic plumbing skills can save hundreds, even thousands, of dollars and can give you the skills and confidence to stop a small plumbing problem from turning into a big expense. While many of us might have the confidence to hammer a nail or pull up old carpet, exploring and understanding the pipes snaking through our homes can feel intimidating. This course offers basic, hands-on knowledge to help turn those mysterious pipes into an understandable system.
In part-one participants learn how to avoid, diagnose and repair basic plumbing problems with safety. Part-two will give the do-it-yourselfer plumber more confidence as you learn the legal and technical details for altering or replacing water supply lines, valves and supply tubes. You’ll even have the chance to practice what you learn with the PNA’s torch and solder! Part one will be held from 10:00 am-noon, and part two will be from noon-2:00 pm.
Each course only costs $25 for PNA members and $30 for non-members. If you register for part one and two there is a $10 discount ($40 for PNA members and $50 for non-members). To register, contact the PNA at 206.783.2244.

Pint & Dale performs “Music of the Blue Divide” at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Couth Buzzard Books Espresso Buono Cafe, 8310 Greenwood Ave. N.
Homes and businesses around the world will turn off their lights from 8:30-9:30 p.m. Saturday for Earth Hour.
At 3 p.m. Sunday, bring the family to the Phinney Neighborhood Center’s Community Hall (in the Brick Building) for
Seattle Family Dance. No experience necessary; all dances are taught to live music.
Phinney Ridge Lutheran Church, 7500 Greenwood Ave. N., is holding an Evening Prayer Service for Japan at 7 p.m. Sunday.

The 30 minute prayer service led by the Gospel and Youth Choirs will use the Holden Evening Prayer liturgy and will include silence, songs and prayers focusing on the tragedy and an opportunity to contribute to relief efforts through Disaster Response of the LutheranChurch in America. All are welcome. Additional information can be found at www.prlc.org

Yanni’s Greek Restaurant at 7419 Greenwood Ave. N. presents a special dinner in honor of Greek Independence Day on Sunday. There’s wine tasting from 5-7:30 p.m., all-night happy hour of Ouzo shots of Greek martinis, and a special holiday menu.
And three road closures to be aware of this weekend. The Ballard Bridge will have changing lane closures throughout Saturday, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., weather permitting, as Seattle Department of Transportation crews grind down and pave the northbound and southbound lanes at the north end of the bridge. At least one lane will remain open in each direction.
On Sunday, southbound lanes of the Ballard Bridge will be closed from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. for a commercial being filmed.

“We will have the right southbound lane blocked up to the draw span and will be opening and closing the bridge several times during the shoot,” Location Manager Doug du Mas says. “Traffic across the bridge will be controlled by Seattle Police and people should expect delays. I suggest using the Fremont Bridge instead during these hours.”

And on Saturday, SDOT crews will make paving repairs on Aurora Avenue North between North 47th and North 48th streets from 7:30-10 a.m. Drivers should expect temporary lane closures.
