There’s plenty of fun to be had in our neighborhood and nearby this beautiful summer weekend, starting Friday afternoon.
The weekly Phinney Farmers Market is from 3-7 p.m. Friday in the lower parking lot of the Phinney Neighborhood Center. Fresh produce, meats, eggs, jams, honey, cider, wine, pasta, soup and more are available.
Pint and Dale performs at Couth Buzzard Books Espresso Buono Café at 8310 Greenwood Ave. N. at 7:30 p.m. Friday as part of the Pacific NW Folklore Society concert series. Free, but donations accepted.
The 5th annual Gumshoe 5K Walk kicks off Friday and runs through Aug. 22. Purchase a $20 entry form at Ken’s Market, Phinney Market, or the Phinney Neighborhood Association, then follow the clues on a three-mile walk around the neighborhood to find the quirky sights. Turn in your entry form for a chance to win Fred Meyer gift cards and restaurant gift certificates.
Seattle Summer Streets/Greenwood-Phinney Art Up Artwalk is Friday from 6-9 p.m. Greenwood Avenue will be closed to traffic from North 65th Street (it’s actually Phinney Avenue at that point for the next two blocks) all the way to North 87th Street. Pedestrians, cyclists, skateboarders, strollers and kids’ wagons will take over the street for a big neighborhood party. More than three dozen businesses are participating in the monthly Artwalk with various artist presentations. Plus there’s dancing in the streets in front of Santoro’s, a whiffle ball game at North 73rd Street and Greenwood Avenue North, the Bubbleman performs in front of Metropolis and Rising Stars at North 74th Street and Greenwood Avenue North at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., and a bunch of other fun activities.
Friday at 7 p.m. in front of Metropolis and Rising Stars, Mayor Mike McGinn will present awards to folks who participated in July’s Walk-Bike-Ride Challenge.
Wayward Coffeehouse at 8570 Greenwood Ave. N. presents live didgeridoo music by Pamela Mortenson from 8-10 p.m. (no cover). On Saturday, singer/songwriter Marit Peters performs from 8-10 p.m. (no cover).
Down the hill at Green Lake, Seattle Public Theater’s (SPT) Youth Program performs “Love’s Labour’s Lost” Friday-Sunday at the Bathhouse Theater on Green Lake. All shows are free, but donations are accepted.

Directed by Shawn Belyea, SPT’s 10-14 year-olds set Shakespeare’s Love’s Labour’s Lost in a 60s frat house! The King of Navarre and his three noblemen denounce all worldly pleasures, including women, to increase their intellect, but how long can the men maintain their vow of nerdy academia when the Princess of France and her three beautiful ladies arrive at court? Love’s Labor’s Lost is a feast of language, rich with rhymed verse, wordplay and witty banter, not to mention some truly ridiculous clowns.
Performances are at 7 p.m. Friday, 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday, and 2 p.m. Sunday.

Ballard’s newest park features “Up!” for its Whittier Height’s Neighborhood Movie Night at 8:30 p.m. Friday. The movie begins at sundown at the as-yet-undeveloped Kirke Park, 7028 9th Ave. NW. Before the movie, the design team for the park will have posters and informally talk about the park design.
Saturday morning, head on over to the Phinney Neighborhood Center for the semi-annual Mystery Book Exchange, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. “Trade your gently used mystery books for ‘new’ ones you haven’t yet solved. If you don’t have books to trade, books can be purchased for a nominal fee. Paperback and hardback accepted. Coffee and treats will be available for purchase.”
Free peace concerts at Gas Works Park on Sunday from 12-6 p.m. Featured artists are Duffy Bishop, Chris Carlson, Red Hot Blues Sisters, Nick Vigarino, Peter Damann, Mia Vermillion, Patti Allen.

Musical styles reflect the diverse contemporary music scene here in the pacific northwest and beyond! – Rock, Pop, Reggae, R&B, Blues, Zydeco, Drum Groups, Choirs, Folk, World Beat, Jazz, and some stuff that defies labeling. These are family events. No alcohol! Admission is free however we encourage folks to bring food bank donations for Northwest Harvest and please contribute what you can when “The Bucket” comes around to help us cover expenses. Another way to support these events, and take home some of the best music performed at these events, is to purchase SPC Compilation Albums sold at these events.

Coming up next week: In honor of winning the “Oscar of pizzerias,” Tutta Bella (in Wallingford at 4411 Stone Way, and three other locations) will provide one free pizza to every table from Monday through next Sunday.
For more events in the neighborhood, you can always check our calendar of events, and even submit your own event.
