Saturday is Seattle’s 16th annual Neighbor Appreciation Day, a day set aside to acknowledge the nice folks next door who keep an eye on your house while you’re on vacation or the teenager down the street who mows your lawn when you’re sick.
Neighbor Appreciation Day was started right here in Phinney Ridge by Judith Wood, who wanted to do something special for her awesome next-door neighbors.
The city is recommending three ways to celebrate the day:
- Organize a neighborhood event such as a block party, open house, potluck, or work party. It can be as big or simple as you want. You can even post your event to their online calendar.
- Pick up free Neighbor Appreciation Day greeting cards featuring winning artwork from the annual Neighbor Appreciation Day Student Art Contest. You can pick up cards at Seattle City Hall, Seattle Department of Neighborhoods office, the 13 Neighborhood Service Centers (including at 8515 Greenwood Ave.), community centers (including the Phinney Neighborhood Association at 6532 Phinney Ave. N., and Seattle Public Libraries.
- Attend one of the many community activities listed on the city’s online calendar.
