The Phinney Neighborhood Association could soon get $2.5 million closer to buying the former John B. Allen school property from the Seattle School District.
The PNA leases the blue building:
and the brick building at 6532 Phinney Ave. N:
A Seattle Planning, Land Use and Neighborhoods Committee committee is expected to discuss the funding at a Sept. 10 meeting. Assuming it passes there, it would go to the full council at a future date.
“The Phinney Neighborhood Center is a focus for the Phinney/Greenwood community and provides services to more than 200,000 people each year,” said Mayor Nickels in a press release announcing the proposed legislation. “We are supporting PNA’s efforts to close on the property so that it can continue to offer a diverse range of services for years to come.”
The PNA is in the quiet phase of a multi-million dollar capital campaign to buy the buildings, remodel them to bring them up to ADA standards and improve the land to make it more of an asset to the community.
