A neighborhood group called Greenwood Streetscapes is exploring ways to build sidewalks and “streetscapes” to connect the community north of 85th Street, where sidewalks are scarce. The group is having an open house from 6:15-9 p.m. on Tuesday, May 18, at the Greenwood Library.
Greenwood Streetscapes is a group of neighbors working with consultants on a web-based planning project that will help blocks of people who want sidewalks by providing them with the tools they need to get them.
The tools include an easy-to-use step by step guide to walkable streetscapes, GIS maps of every block without sidewalks in Greenwood, schematic ideas that match a variety of typical conditions in the neighborhood, a matrix of streetscape choices that include both traditional and attractive alternative solutions, a comprehensive list of possible funding/financing options that include ways for people to pay for their own sidewalks, and more.
The nearly $200K project is funded by neighborhood donations and the City of Seattle Neighborhood Matching Fund program.
The open house includes fun activities for adults and kids, a public conversation about walkability, and neighborhood stories, maps and photos. Snacks and drinks will be provided.
