Arson reward fund grows to $25,000

by | Nov 10, 2009

Taproot Theatre, which was heavily damaged in the Oct. 23 arson, is using $15,000 from its insurance coverage to increase the reward for information leading to the conviction of  the Greenwood arsonist(s) from $10,000 to $25,000.

The reward is offered by the NW Insurance Council. If you have any information, you’re urged to call the Arson Hotline at 1-800-55-ARSON.

“We recognize the impact the fires have on our entire community, from the businesses who lost everything on October 23 to the fear the fires have instilled in many others,” said Taproot’s producing artistic director, Scott Nolte. “It is our hope that the crimes will be solved before any more arsons are committed.”

The Oct. 23 arson was the fifth intentionally set fire in Greenwood since June. In the last few weeks, another five arsons have occured, including three late Sunday and early Monday.
Seattle Fire Department and Seattle Police Department, along with the Greenwood-Phinney Chamber of Commerce and Greenwood Community Council, are hosting a community meeting tonight at 7 p.m. at Phinney Ridge Lutheran Church, 7500 Greenwood Ave. N. SPD and SFD will tell neighbors what they are doing to catch the arsonist(s) and how we can keep ourselves safe.
