Current needs at Greenwood Food Bank

by | Jul 8, 2009

The Greenwood Food Bank has sent us a list of its latest needs.

  • canned meats (i.e., tuna, chicken and salmon)
  • canned and boxed meals (i.e., soup, chili, stew, macaroni and cheese)
  • peanut butter
  • canned or dried beans and peas (i.e., black, pinto, lentils)
  • pasta, rice, cereal
  • canned fruits
  • fruit juice (canned, plastic or boxed)
  • baby food

Clients lately have been asking for things they can’t buy with food stamps like soap, detergent, toilet paper, shampoo, etc. For the food bank itself, simple things like pens, markers, office supplies that basically I buy myself when we run out. Of course any food and cash donations would be very welcome.

The food bank is run by the Volunteers of America. If you’re looking for volunteer opportunities, you can pick up a Food Bank fund drive kit, or help deliver food to inbound seniors and disabled. You can also receive and evaluate donations, stock shelves, and distribute donations to the community.

There are always lots of cleaning opportunities to make our food bank an inviting place where people in need can come and receive hope that together as a community they have a place to turn. To learn more visit our website at www.voaww.org or phone the Volunteers of America Greenwood Food Bank at (206) 782-6731.
