Dozens of trees planted in neighborhood today

Twice a year, the City of Seattle provides free trees to groups of neighbors to plant in their sidewalk strips. The idea is that a tree-lined street slows down traffic, plus it’s good for the environment. Neighborhoods north of the Ship Canal received their trees yesterday. Here’s a few pictures of one planting party this morning on NW 75th St.

The organizer for the NW 75th St. trees, Jodi Newton, also received a separate grant, called a Small Sparks Grant, for 1,700 daffodil bulbs. Neighbors planted them in their sidewalk strips, in the traffic circle at NW 75th St. and 6th Ave. NW, and also planted several hundred in Our Park at NW 76th St. and 6th Ave. NW. Come spring, the neighborhood will be a little brighter!
Next year, Jodi hopes to get a larger grant for her “dream” of planting 10,000 bulbs in the neighborhood. If you’re interested in helping out, contact Jodi.
