The Greenwood Senior Center, 525 N. 85th St., is hosting a screening of the short documentary “What We Want the World to Know” by members of the Gathering Place, an early stage memory loss program. The screening is from 3-5 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 9.
They discuss many of the complexities of living with memory loss in profound and inspiring ways, offer advice about how to live well, and speak to the challenges and joys of the human experience.
Hearing directly from people living with memory loss is both rare and necessary in our work to raise awareness, inspire hope, and actively create a stronger and more compassionate community. The Gathering Place has been operating for over 5 years and advocacy has always been an integral part of the program. We believe this film, with the members’ honest portrayals, helps diffuse the stigma associated with memory loss and dementia by bringing to light a more holistic and humanizing narrative.
This will be a big community event so please consider inviting friends who may be interested. We will enjoy refreshments, see the portraits and artwork of the Gathering Place members, watch and reflect on the film and celebrate our incredible and ever expanding community.
