10th annual Gumshoe 5K Walk begins Friday, raises funds for 3 Greenwood nonprofits

by | Jul 31, 2015

Our neighborhood’s annual scavenger hunt, the Gumshoe 5K Walk, begins its 10th year this Friday and runs through Aug. 9. The Gumshoe takes participants on a fun detective walk around the neighborhood by following clues to find interesting places, signs, yard art, etc., and the chance to win $1,000 in prizes. Ten local businesses have each donated $100 gift cards, from Phinney Market Pub & Eatery to Top Ten Toys.

Past Gumshoe participants followed clues to this interesting yard art.
Entry forms are $20 or $15 each if you purchase two or more together. Buy them at Ken’s Market, the Phinney Center, Starbucks on Phinney, and Couth Buzzard Books. The Gumshoe is a fundraiser for the Greenwood Senior Center, Greenwood Elementary School PTA and Greenwood Food Bank, raising more than $38,000 since 2005.
New this year is the “Procrastishoe,” a group walk for people (like us) who buy forms and wait until the last possible second, but think they can’t complete it in time to qualify for prizes. So, at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 9, meet up with other procrastinators at Ken’s Market to solve the walk en masse, with the Gumshoe Answer Man (Mike Veitenhans) following along behind to provide hints.
(Past years’ Eatsy Street and GumShop “games within the game” have been eliminated to streamline the event.)
Note: The Gumshoe is a PhinneyWood sponsor.
