Chess Club was started in 2018 on Capitol Hill with the purpose of getting people from the neighborhood together. The club has grown to many locations throughout the city following the sudden popularity of the game in 2022. People come from all over to play chess, meet people, or just to get out of the house.
Halcyon Brewing Company (8564 Greenwood Ave N) is now hosting Chess Club every Wednesday at their spacious location. Attendees can drop in for free and join in the beautiful game of chess, and there is always a host who will facilitate the event. Halcyon will also host tournaments the last Wednesday of the month.
Everyone of all skill levels are welcome at Chess Club, and the intention is to strive to create a respectful environment where you can be yourself. If you are just now learning how the pieces move, or were state champion in school, you will find your match. Players are asked support each other by giving helpful chess tips, having a chat, and sharing a beer. Chess is a set of rules that brings people together to share a fun time!
