The Woodland Park Zoo has announced the groundbreaking of the new Forest Trailhead exhibit. In 2016 a fire significantly damaged the former Day and Night Exhibits. Since then, the Zoo has been designing a new experience to address wildlife conservation and climate change.
This project focuses on community-led conservation in mountain forests around the world. The Zoo is also designing this project to underscore their commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, building an exhibit that is truly accessible, relevant and empowering to everyone.
Construction of the Forest Trailhead exhibit (working title), located at the heart of the zoo, will begin with light mobilization work during the second week of April. Heavier construction with potential neighborhood noise impacts will take place during the second week of May through the end of June. The zoo and its construction partners closely follow the City of Seattle’s noise ordinance, with construction activity occurring on weekdays between 7:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
