A collective with a cause: Calico Salon opens in Phinney Ridge

by | Dec 6, 2020

Calico Salon wants the Phinneywood neighborhood to know that they are open for business!  Located at 7421 Greenwood Ave N in the former home of Seattle Knife Sharpening, Calico Salon is a woman-owned collective of independent stylists who pride themselves in “delivering a comfortable and luxurious salon experience for everyone.”

The collective is very passionate about community involvement, connecting with neighbors, and making sure they are a positive force in their neighborhood. In their previous salon together as employees, they organized warm coat drives and other efforts that have helped beneficiaries from homeless youth to goats. “Everyone at the Salon is a social activist,” says owner Cassie Tarver.

Their first PhinneyWood project is a holiday fundraiser for the Greenwood Food Bank donate $5 to the cause through Venmo (@CalicoSalonFundraisers) and you will also be entered in a raffle for a gift basket of R+Co hair products worth $200.

Each stylist – Cassie, Greta, Quincy and Luanne (l-r in picture) – has anywhere from 6- 12 years experience in the hair industry and focus on custom cuts, colors, extensions and hair tinsel services. Calico takes Covid-19 safety very seriously and schedule extra time between each client to properly clean and sanitize all tools, working space, and high-touch areas using medical grade sanitizer.  There is also an air purifying system with a HEPA filter that cleans 99.97% of .3 micron (Covid sized) particles every hour and masks are required for both staff and clientele.

“We are so excited to be a part of this tight knit community and look forward to getting to know you all- give us a wave next time you walk by!”
