Jeopardy all-time champ Ken Jennings to host City Fruit trivia benefit

by | Oct 2, 2020

On Sunday, October 25, 2020, Ken Jennings, Jeopardy! G.O.A.T. (Greatest of All Time) and new Consulting Producer, will host a live streamed trivia game over Zoom. This is the only event open to the public where Ken has agreed to donate his time in 2020. All people are invited to register for the 5:00pm event and all proceeds will benefit City Fruit, a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization serving the greater Seattle area. State Senator Rebecca Saldana, D-Seattle, will make a special appearance, as well.

City Fruit annually donates 55,000 pounds of locally harvested fruit to those in need in our community. The organization’s work diverts food waste while sharing high quality, nutritious fruit. City Fruit values community nutrition, healthy neighborhoods, environmental sustainability, and sustainable food systems. The City Fruit harvest has been severely impacted over the past week due to the toxic wildfire smoke in our region. The organization is in great need of extra support for the work it does to feed Seattle area residents.

The City Fruit annual fundraiser was forced to go socially distant this year due to COVID. The event fundraising goal is $20,000 and all proceeds will further the reach of urban fruit trees during a time when families need fresh fruit most.

“City Fruit Celebrates” is a Virtual Cider Tasting and Trivia Event. On the night of October 25, all guests will have the opportunity to sample ciders donated by local cideries (which guests will pick up from City Fruit in advance), and play trivia online with Ken. The organization anticipates having 300 trivia teams of up to five members each play along virtually that night. That is 1,500 supporters from all over the country tuning in and competing, all to make sure the bounty of Seattle’s urban canopy of public and private fruit trees will continue to supply local food banks, meal programs, and farm-to-table area businesses.

In advance of the party, the organization’s volunteers will safely distribute the delicious ciders to local guests at designated pick-up locations. (Social distancing rules will apply.) The night of the online event, guests will learn a little about the ciders provided in the cider tasting packages and about City Fruit’s accomplishments this harvest season. The night will culminate in an exciting, family-friendly game of trivia with Ken as Quiz Master. State Senator Rebecca Saldana and her family will play along, and the
Senator will speak live to the group when the game ends. All guests will have the opportunity to compete in the event costume contest and the rounds of trivia, come up with the best Trivia Team Name, win prizes donated by local businesses, and celebrate fruit!
