Woodland Park Zoo Fall Fecal Fest begins Tuesday

Gardeners thinking about getting their yards ready for fall take note: Woodland Park Zoo’s Fall Fecal Fest begins Tuesday. Enter to win the chance to purchase the zoo’s prized Zoo Doo (compost and mulch) created by some of the zoo’s animals.

The sweet, aromatic Zoo Doo is composed of species feces contributed by a variety of the zoo’s non-primate herbivores, such as rhinos, hippos, giraffes, mountain goats, tapirs and more, and is perfect to grow veggies and annuals. Bedspread, the zoo’s premium composted mulch, is a combination of Zoo Doo, sawdust, and large amounts of wood chips; it is used to cushion perennial beds and woody landscapes including rose beds, shrubs and pathways.

Zoo Doo is available from five gallons up to a maximum of 100 gallons or by the truck load; Bedspread is only available by the truck load.

Because it’s so popular, there isn’t enough to go around. To enter for the chance to purchase, fill out the online form at zoo.org/fecalfest from Aug. 21–Sept. 15. Only one entry per person is eligible for each drawing. Entries will be randomly selected according to supply and demand. Dr. Doo will contact the lucky drawn entries only. Pick-up dates will be Sept. 29–Oct. 14. Cash or check only; no credit or debit cards.
