It’s a festive holiday weekend in Phinney Ridge and Greenwood. Here are some highlights of what’s happening in the neighborhood; check our Events calendar for more.
Pacific NW Folklore Society presents Jaspar Lepak at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Couth Buzzard Books, 8310 Greenwood Ave. N. On Saturday, Couth Buzzard hosts Orville Johnson & Grant Dermody for an acoustic blues concert.
Music Center of the Northwest, 901 N. 96th St., presents its Northwest Adult Student Musicale at 7:30 p.m. Friday, and its Jazz Combos and Rocks Bands Recital at 7 p.m. Saturday.
Spanish Night with Deseo Carmin, performing her fusion of Latin, jazz, funk and rock, from 7-9 p.m. Saturday at Luso Food & Wine, 8218 Greenwood Ave. N.
Taproot Theatre’s holiday productions are “A Civil War Christmas: An American Musical Celebration” on the Jewell Mainstage and “A Charlie Brown Christmas” in the Isaac Studio.
Woodland Park Zoo’s WildLights continues through Jan. 1.
Friday is both the monthly Art Up PhinneyWood Artwalk and PhinneyWood Phestivus, with Emerald City Trolley providing free rides from a dozen stops along Phinney/Greenwood avenues between the zoo and North 87th Street. Hop on and off the trolley any time between 6-10 p.m. and check out all the Artwalk venues as well as Santa Claus Lane (Morrow Lane in Piper Village, directly east of the Greenwood Fred Meyer). Some restaurants and businesses are providing Ugly Christmas Sweater discounts, you can get your pet’s photo taken with Santa in front of Mud Bay while listening to School of Rock bands, and lots more. If you’re heading downtown this weekend, be advised that the Jingle Bell Run starts at 8 a.m. Sunday at Westlake Park, so some surrounding streets and the southbound I-5 Express Lanes will be closed for several hours. The express lanes will reopen by 10:45 a.m.
