Public meeting on proposed Handy Andy truck site at 92nd and Aurora is May 24

by | May 11, 2017

The city will hold a public meeting about the proposed new location for Handy Andy Rent-A-Tool Inc. on Aurora Avenue North after community concerns about the site location, traffic and safety.

Handy Andy has proposed moving from 10711 Aurora Ave. N. to 9225 Aurora Ave. N. As many as 500 truck trips per day are expected at the new site, which is just a block from the new Seattle Public Schools campus for three schools opening in the fall at North 90th Street, one block east of Aurora. Neighbors and activists are worried about students’ safety as they walk or bike to school. That block is part of the North Seattle Greenway, as well as a designed Safe Route to School.

The project would take up the entire west side of Aurora Avenue between North 92nd and 93rd streets. Three buildings and a portion of a fourth on the site of an existing wrecking yard would be demolished. The site would be used to display rental equipment, conduct vehicle repair and manufacture concrete. The project must go through SEPA environmental review.

The public meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 24, at the Ballard Community Center, 6020 28th Ave. NW, in the Sunset/Captain Ballard Room. Written and oral comments are welcome at the meeting.

You can find all documents and plans related to the site here; type in project number 3026342.
