Taproot Theatre presents ‘Joyful Noise’ Sept. 21 through Oct. 22

by | Sep 2, 2016

Taproot Theatre, 204 N. 85th St., presents “Joyful Noise” from Sept. 21 through Oct. 22. It is recommended for ages 11 and up.

Let us sing of greater things. George Frederick Handel is in crisis. His patron is dead, his operas are unpopular and he’s suffered public humiliation of his own making. From this ruin a joyous masterpiece is born. Witty, scandalous and based on the true story of the creation of Handel’s Messiah, this is a tale to inspire.
Taproot is excited to welcome Gregory Award winner and 2016 Gregory Award nominee Allison Standley (Village Theatre’s My Fair Lady) as Susannah Cibber and Gregory Award nominee Jim Gall (Book-It Rep’s Slaughterhouse-Five) as George Frederick Handel.

Taproot staff and cast members will conduct post-play discussions with the audience after every Wednesday performance (excluding the preview) and after midweek matinee performances at 2 p.m. on Sept. 27 and 10 a.m. on Oct. 5.
The 7:30 p.m. performance on Sept. 28 is pay-what-you-can, with a limited number of $10 tickets available at 12 p.m. that day, then name-your-price tickets available after 5 p.m. Purchases are in-person only, limit of four tickets per person.
At 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 11, join Classical King FM’s Marta Zekan and other musicians as they discuss their favorite parts of Handel’s “The Messiah” and its history in “Conversation: Echo Through the Ages.” Tickets to this free event will be available at a later date.
