Neighborhood earthquake drill set for Saturday

by | Jun 9, 2016

Many of our neighbors will participate in an earthquake drill from 10-11:30 a.m. Saturday, after local, state and military organizations participated in the four-day “Cascadia Rising” national-level exercise.

You can participate in this drill at several levels:

  • Neighborhood Net: 10:00 – 11:30 AM. Turn on your walkie-talkie, go to Channel 7, Privacy Code 12, and join the Net. Deliver and receive “injects” to be broadcast throughout the area.
  • Hub at Phinney Center: At 9:00 AM, go to Phinney Center (N 67th St. & Phinney Ave. N) to help set up shelter canopies and message boards. From 10:00-11:30 AM, interact with members of the public, distributing and receiving information.
  • On your Block: At 10:00 AM, gather with your neighbors at your Block meeting place, divide into teams of two or more, and visit every home on your block (or in your building). Distribute preparedness literature, map the location of gas meters, and update contact information for your Block Roster.
  • In your Household: At 9:00 AM, check and refresh your Disaster Supply Kits, review your household information lists, and practice in-home emergency procedures. At 10:00 AM, join the activities on your Block, at a Hub, or on the Neighborhood Net.
