News roundup: Antique soda fountain, Summer Solstice Parade entries, PNA jobs, zoo ambassadors, business news and crime

by | May 17, 2016

Bluebird Ice Cream is installing an antique soda fountain in its Phinney Ridge shop. The soda fountain was originally at the Greenlake General Store in the 1930s. Work to install the fountain is being done in the early morning hours so it won’t affect store operations. It’s expected to be operational by mid- to late-June. The Fremont Bluebird shop also has an antique soda fountain that was originally installed in a 1930s Pioneer Square pharmacy.

The Fremont Arts Council is calling for entries to its 28th annual Summer Solstice Parade on Saturday, June 18. All entries must be human powered (except wheelchairs); and have no live animals (except service animals); no written words, signage or recognizable logos; and no functional weapons.

The Phinney Neighborhood Association has several jobs to fill (click the link for the full job description):

Patricia is warning folks who have groceries or prepared food delivered to their front porches: Her husband was getting their Munchery delivery off the porch when he encountered a raccoon hissing at him while eating the food – in broad daylight. She suggests setting a cooler or similar raccoon-proof box on your porch for such deliveries.

Karl’s surveillance system got clear footage of a woman stealing items off his front porch on Phinney Avenue between North 68th and 70th streets just before 2 a.m. Saturday. The woman also peered through the front door window and around to the side yard. Does anyone recognize the woman?

A la Mode Pies in Phinney Ridge has been recognized by the Puget Sound Business Journal in its first LGBTQ-owned business list.

City Light also is hosting an online open house this Thursday to help it develop its 2016 Integrated Resource Plan that will serve as a plan for how the utility will meet customer power requirements over the next 20 years. The plan will look at how City Light will make supply decisions about conservation, technology, costs, greenhouse gases and climate impacts. You can register for the online open house, which happens from 12-1 p.m. Thursday.
