Our friends at the neighborhood nonprofit writing and tutoring center The Greater Seattle Bureau of Fearless Ideas (formerly 826 Seattle) are putting together their latest anthology from student and professional writers. “Encyclopedia Greenwoodia” will be published in March, with public readings throughout the spring.
But before they publish it, they asked me a very pressing question: What do you call the residents of Greenwood? Is it Greenwoodians? Greenwooders? Greenwoodites? Or something else?
Oddly, here at PhinneyWood that question has never come up. Residents have many different names for the neighborhood and its different parts — Grinney, Lower Phinney, Phinney Valley, Ballard Alps, Greenhood, Phinney Lake, Green View, and Green Ridge, to name a few — but we’ve never been asked to determine a specific name for the residents therein.
So, dear readers, we’d like you to weigh in. Tell us your preferred name for Greenwood residents, and more importantly, why that term is better than any other. (If you’d rather not comment publicly, you can email us at [email protected] and we’ll keep your name private.)
