Teen pleads guilty to killing Greenwood man for his cell phone last year

The teenager accused of murdering Greenwood resident David Peterson for his cell phone in February of 2014 pleaded guilty to first degree murder on Monday afternoon.

Peterson, 54, was killed in the parking lot of Mud Bay while calling 911 to report that Byron White had tried to rob him of his cell phone. According to prosecutors, White heard Peterson on the phone and came back, shot him, then took his phone and ran away. White was later arrested at Sea-Tac Airport.

According to the King County Prosecutor’s Office, White will be sentenced on Nov. 9. The sentencing range is 22 to 28-1/2 years.
