PNA still looking for Volunteer Coordinator & Fall Prevention Lead/AmeriCorps

The Phinney Neighborhood Association is still looking for a Volunteer Coordinator & Fall Prevention Lead from AmeriCorps for its PNA Village, and has updated the job description.

The mission of the Phinney Neighborhood Association (PNA) is to build community by providing programs, services and activities aimed at connecting neighbors and fostering civic involvement in the greater Greenwood-Phinney-Ballard community. The PNA Village, a program of the PNA, is an aging- in-community membership program. The PNA Village provides support, expertise, and services to members who want to have the practical means and confidence to live safely and comfortably in their own homes and neighborhoods.

Position Overview

The PNA Village coordinates access to affordable services provided by volunteers including friendly visits, transportation, home repairs, social and educational activities. In 2015-16, we will deliver a Fall Prevention training program for the members of the PNA Village with the added feature of offering a home safety check to be conducted by a new volunteer position, Home Safety Volunteer (HSV). The HSV will do a follow-up home visit with the attendees of the Fall Prevention training using a Home Safety checklist.

Essential Responsibilities

The PNA Village engages a variety of community members as volunteers who contribute their time and talent to provide services to our members. As the Volunteer Coordinator, member is responsible for maintaining an effective volunteer program including recruitment, training, reporting, surveying, appreciation and retention of volunteers. As the Fall Prevention Lead, member is responsible for research, attending and completing Matter of Balance (MOB) training, delivery of classes to members, and assessing efficacy of MOB classes. Member will also be responsible for implementing the new volunteer position, Home Safety Volunteer (HSV).

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience Dedication to volunteerism and coordinating volunteer activities Experience in leadership role Experience recruiting, training, managing, and supporting groups of people to address community needs through service projects Excellent organizational skills, including project management, public speaking, event planning and implementation Previous experience working with older adults highly desired.

AmeriCorps Eligibility Requirements

Selected member(s) should demonstrate the skills and commitment required to successfully serve in the position, serve 40 hours a week and meet the 1700 minimum hour requirement for a full-time term of service. At a minimum, the following criteria required by the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) must be met:

  1. Be a United States citizen or lawful permanent resident (must submit proof as defined by CNCS regulation)
  2. Be 18-25 years of age at the start date of their service
  3. Pass required National Service Criminal History Checks (NSCHC)
  4. Not be listed on the National Sex Offender Public Website (NSOPW).

Compensation

  1. Living stipend of $1,195 per month provided by WSC (before taxes)
  2. Training and experience
  3. Health Insurance (member only and only if no other health insurance coverage)
  4. Student loan forbearance and interest accrual payment on qualifying loans
  5. $5,730 Education Award provided by National Service Trust (upon successful completion of the 10.5 month term of service and 1,700 hours)
  6. Subsidized childcare through GAP Solutions Inc. (if qualified)
  7. Subsidized housing available (adorable mother-in-law cottage in Phinney for $400/month)
  8. Bus pass

Hours /Office Location Hours: Monday – Friday 9 am – 5:30 pm. Some weekend/evening events and meetings. Office Location: Greenwood Senior Center, 525 N 85th Street, Seattle WA 98103.
