This Memorial Day weekend there are a number of great (and free) ways to enjoy the holiday while honoring those who made sacrifices serving in the U.S. armed forces. Below are a few events city-wide.
Northwest Folklife Festival
One of the largest free folk festivals in the country, this annual festival features over 7,000 diverse performers, participatory dances, workshops, arts and crafts and food booths galore! There is something for every age and appetite at this festival. Fri., May 22 through Sun., May 24 from 11 a.m.–10 p.m.; Mon., May 25 from 11 a.m.–9 p.m. (Discovery Zone open daily, 11 a.m.-6 p.m.). Memorial Day Ceremony, Museum of Flight
The Museum of Flight honors military service on Memorial Day, May 25. This ceremony will feature a performance by the Boeing Employee Concert band. Veterans and active U.S. Military personnel receive free admission to the Museum with identification. Monday, May 25 @ 10:30 am–12:30 pm am located in the side gallery. Free. All ages.
Seattle International Film Festival
SIFF’s mission is to create experiences that bring people together to discover extraordinary films from around the world. It is through the art of cinema that we foster a community that is more informed, aware, and alive. This year’s festival runs from May 14- June 7. Full calendar can be found here.
Seattle Parks and Recreation
Seattle Parks and Recreation manages a 6,200-acre park system of 465 parks and extensive natural areas. Parks provides athletic fields, tennis courts, play areas, specialty gardens, and more than 25 miles of boulevards and 120 miles of trails. There are many free events throughout the year and as summer approaches, there is something for everyone found in every neighborhood. Full calendar of events can be found here.
