Theater, farmers market, barbecue, mural celebration, Summer Splash in Greenwood-Phinney and nearby this weekend

Lots of fun happenings in Phinney Ridge and Greenwood and nearby this weekend. Here are a few highlights; check our Events calendar for more.

Phinney Farmers Market from 3-7 p.m. Friday in the upper parking lot of the Phinney Neighborhood Association, 6532 Phinney Ave. N. Fresh veggies, fruit, flowers, bread, meat, ice cream and several dining options to choose from.

The neighborhood is invited to a community celebration of the new North 63rd Street/Aurora Avenue underpass mural from 6-7:30 p.m. this Friday, in the grassy area next to the mural, across from Green Lake. Food and beverages will be provided.

Greenwood Senior Center’s “Taste of the Old West” barbecue buffet starts at 6:45 p.m. Friday at 525 N. 85th St. Prizes for best-dressed cowboy and cowgirl, plus there’s a lasso contest, country music and cowboy poetry. $12 for members, $15 non-members.

It’s closing weekend for Taproot Theatre’s “Jane Eyre, the musical.”

GreenStage presents “The Comedy of Errors” at 7 p.m. Friday at Sandel Park, 9053 1st Ave. NW.

Empty Sea Studios, 6300 Phinney Ave. N., kicks off the season with a live album recording by Bellingham songstress Misty Flowers at 8 p.m. Friday. Tickets are $12 in advance, $15 at the door.

Misty Flowers is a timeless, passionate performer blending jazz, folk and blues elements into her own unique style. Her smoky sweet voice delivers messages of hope to the heartbroken while her hypnotic guitar carries the listener along through a world rich with melodic emotion. Her music reflects her ability to face life honestly and to take only the best from all of her encounters.

Siobhan O’Loughlin presents “Natural Novice” at 8:30 p.m. Friday at the new The Pocket Theatre, 8312 Greenwood Ave. N. Cost is $10.

Windermere Summer Splash is from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Green Lake. Free; most activities take place on the southwest corner of the park near the Green Lake Small Craft Center. The first-ever Summer Splash features a Junior Rowing Competition and Corporate Cup regatta; opportunities to try rowing, canoeing, kayaking and stand-up paddle boarding; a magician; bouncy house; trampoline; interactive hula hoop and skateboarding demonstrations; CrossFit Kids demonstrations by Sonic CrossFit Kids; face painting; kids arts and crafts projects; bike helmet and life jacket fittings; food vendors and music.

Final life jacket sale of the season at Green Lake’s Evans Pool from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Cost for life jackets, sizes infant to youth large, is $20. Teens to adult size XXXL is $30.

Shakespeare’s “As you Like It” is updated to 1990’s Vegas at Seattle Public Theatre, at Green Lake’s Bathhouse Theater, 7312 West Green Lake Dr. N., with actors in grades 9-12. Performances are at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 2 p.m. Sunday. Free, but donations encouraged to support SPT’s youth program.

And Bathhouse Ensemble (graduates of SPT’s youth program) presents “Almost, Maine” at 9 p.m. Friday, 2 p.m. Saturday and 7 p.m. Sunday. Free.

Almost, Maine comprises nine short stories that explore love and loss in a remote, mythical almost-town called Almost, Maine. One cold, clear Friday night in the middle of winter, while northern lights hover in the sky above, Almost’s residents find themselves falling in and out of love in the strangest ways. Knees are bruised. Hearts are broken. Love is lost, found, and confounded. And life for the people of Almost, Maine will never be the same.

The 6th annual Party in Greenwood Park is from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday between Fremont and Evanston avenues on the north side of 87th Street. The party kicks off at 11 a.m. with a show from the Bubbleman. Kids 12 and under can play on the Pop-up Adventure Playground. Suggested donation is $2-$5 per child to help pay for materials.”No Bones About It” vegan food truck will be selling food.
