Weekend events in Greenwood-Phinney Ridge

by | Jul 4, 2014

Just a few events to tell you about in Greenwood-Phinney this weekend.

Couth Buzzard Books, 8310 Greenwood Ave. N., presents Jazz First Fridays with New Ronin 4 at 7:30 p.m. Friday, and First Sunday Seattle Roda de Choro from 2-5 p.m. Sunday.

Tim’s Tavern presents Seattle Singer-Songwriter Showcase at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at 602 N. 105th St.

The Phinney Farmers Market is CLOSED today for the holiday, but it will be back from 3-7 p.m. next Friday.

Don’t forget that Metro Transit is operating on a Sunday schedule today, so check the schedule before you head out to celebrate the holiday.

All city community centers are closed today, as well as indoor pools, environmental learning centers, the Amy Yee Tennis Center and the Green Lake Small Craft Center. But all golf courses, boat ramps and beaches are open, as well as wading pools at Green Lake, Bitter Lake, Cal Anderson, EC Hughes, Hiawatha, Lincoln Park, Magnuson Park, Van Asselt, Volunteer and Wallingford. The city’s two outdoor pools are open today. Mounger is on a holiday schedule and Colman is on a regular Friday schedule.

65,000 people are expected at Gas Works Park today for fun and fireworks. Neighborhoods north of Gas Works Park (from North 40th Street south to North Northlake Way) are closed to all but local access. The gates opened at noon and the fireworks are scheduled to begin about 10:20 p.m.

Becky posted on our Facebook page, asking if anyone has tips on where to take little kids to see fireworks without having to fight the crowds. Anyone?
