Greenwood Seafair Parade on Wednesday will bring thousands to neighborhood

by | Jul 21, 2014

The 64th annual Greenwood Seafair Parade will take over Greenwood this Wednesday evening, July 23. More than 100 parade entries – including marching bands, drill teams, unicyclists, horses, dogs, pirates, community groups and plenty of cute kids – will begin at 6 p.m. at North 95th Street and Greenwood Avenue North, working their way south, then turning right on 85th Street and ending at 6th Avenue NW. The parade should end around 8:30 p.m.

The parade theme is “Touchdown Greenwood,” and the grand marshal is Blitz, the Seahawks mascot. Pony rides will be available for $6 starting at 10 a.m. at North 92nd Street and Greenwood Avenue North.

Thousands of people line the route, with some putting out chairs to reserve their place early that morning. Taproot Theatre’s Stage Door Cafe, at 208 N. 85th St. is offering pre-orders on boxed dinners for $12.95 that come with reserved seating from 3-8 p.m. either inside or out, using your own chairs or theirs. Order forms are inside the café. (If any other business has a similar special, please let us know.)

The Greenwood Seafair Parade is the oldest neighborhood Seafair-sanctioned parade.

(PhinneyWood is a parade sponsor.)
