Looks like it will be a gorgeous night for the monthly Art Up Artwalk in Phinneywood-land. Dozens of art galleries and other businesses will be open from at least 6-9 p.m. (many later) to showcase artists in various mediums. Tall Heights performs with Connor Garvey Friday at Empty Sea Studios, 6300 Phinney Ave. N. The 7 p.m. show is sold out, but tickets are still available for the 9 p.m. show. Cost is $12 in advance, $15 at the door.
The Quiet American performs a Pacific NW Folklore Society Concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Couth Buzzard Books, 8310 Greenwood Ave. N.
Pretty Fire continues its run at Taproot Theatre’s new Isaac Studio, 208 NW 85th St., through March 22. This one-woman show was written by by Tony-nominated actress Charlayne Woodard and performed by award-winning Seattle actress Tracy Michelle Hughes. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Thursdays, 8 p.m. Fridays, and 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Saturdays.
Seattle Folklore Society presents Medna Usta at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Phinney Center, 6532 Phinney Ave. N., in the Brick Building. Cost is $16 general, $14 SFS/PNA members and seniors, kids half price.
Medna Usta was formed in 1985 in Santa Cruz, California, by a group of women drawn together by their love of Bulgarian and Macedonian folk music. Singing and performing on traditional Bulgarian folk instruments, Medna Usta gained a loyal following during the late 1980s in Northern California. They are seasoned performers and have performed and taught at the Centrum International Festival in Port Townsend.
