Artwalk, live music, theater in Phinney-Greenwood this weekend

Plenty of fun in the neighborhood this weekend. Here are a few highlights; check our Events calendar for more.

The monthly Art Up Artwalk is from 6-9 p.m. Friday night at nearly four-dozen Greenwood-Phinney art galleries and businesses. Corinna Sinclair will present her oil paint/mixed media creations at In The Red Wine Bar, 6510 Phinney Ave. N.

Francine Seders Gallery’s October show is Philip Govedare’s “Distant Places” and “The Mt Waddington Reliquary” by Anna McKee (with sound by Steve Peters.) And it’s the opening reception for the Northwest Fine Arts Competition at the PNA, starting at 7 p.m. Check out the Artwalk website for a list of all participating venues and a map.

Family-friendly Open Mic Night at 7 p.m. Friday at Woodland Park Presbyterian Church, 225 N. 70th St.

Contra Dance at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the PNA in the Brick Building.

School Board member Sherry Carr is hosting a meeting with District II constituents from 8:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday at Bethany Community Church, 8023 Green Lake Dr., in the Christian Education Building.

Kindiependent band The Not-Its! rocks Ridge Romp at the PNA in the Brick Building starting at 10:30 a.m. Saturday.

Seattle Folklore Society presents Keith Murphy at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Phinney Neighborhood Association, 6532 Phinney Ave. N., in the Brick Building. Cost is $15 general, $13 SFS/PNA members and seniors; kids half price. Reserve seats online or call 206-528-8523.

A founding member of the ensemble Nightingale, a trio that broke new ground in its sophisticated approach to traditional music, Murphy’s direct and intimate style of traditional singing in English and French infuses old ballads and songs with a powerful immediacy while his rhythmic and percussive finger style of guitar playing brings new shape and color to his songs.

Couth Buzzard Books, 8310 Greenwood Ave. N., presents Carolyn Cruso in a Pacific NW Folklore Society Coffee House Concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday; Oktoberfester — The Whateverly Brothers concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday; and Music Improv Workshop with Kenny Mandell, Lamar Lofton and Greg Campbell at 7 p.m. Sunday.

Empty Sea Studios presents Hanz Araki & Kathryn Claire at 8 p.m. Saturday, 6300 Phinney Ave. N. Tickets are $15 in advance, $18 at the door.

Taproot Theatre continues its run of the comedy “The Matchmaker,” which has been extended through Oct. 26.
