Seattle Farm Supply has opened at the triangular corner of Holman Road, 3rd Avenue NW and NW 101st St., selling urban farming supplies, from chicken coops to feed and chickens, plus plant starts, raised garden beds and vermicomposting equipment.
Owner Eric Jonas says he started the business out of his garage two years ago, selling chicken coops, then quickly expanded to feeders, water supplies, feed and chicks. He says he always wanted to move his business to this very corner, calling it his “dream location.”
Jonas hopes to also begin selling goats this week. He wants Seattle Farm Supply to be an educational resource for urban farmers, and plans to eventually offer classes.
The property owner still plans to use the space as a Christmas tree lot during the holiday season, but Jonas says his landlord has offered to continue to sell animal feed to his customers during that time.
Seattle Farm Supply is at 210 NW 101st St. It is open from 12-6 p.m. today and tomorrow, but starting this weekend it will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. seven days a week.
