Hundreds honor ancestors at annual Day of the Dead celebration

by | Nov 3, 2012

Hundreds of people packed into the Phinney Neighborhood Association Friday night for the annual Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebration. It began outside in the rain, where Esmael Xiutecpatl and Ce atl Tonalli Aztec Dance Group performed a traditional blessing and then led a procession through the neighborhood.

Inside people could drink Mexican hot chocolate, buy Day of the Dead Bread, see more traditional performances, and decorate sugar skulls (below).

And people could place pictures and other objects to remember loved ones on the community altar.
