Seattle Department of Transportation is moving right along with its massive repaving project of N/NW 85th Street from Ballard to I-5. Crews will begin working on Phases 4 and 5 this Friday, weather permitting.
Eastbound vehicles will continue to be detoured to North 80th Street, starting at Greenwood Avenue, although local access between Greenwood and Aurora Avenue will be allowed, as well as access to northbound Aurora.
Road crews will restripe 85th between Greenwood and Aurora avenues on Wednesday, and they’ll keep rebuilding sidewalks and driveways on that stretch over the next couple of weeks.
Phase 4 – Aurora Ave N to Wallingford Ave N
Construction activities and eastbound closures in Phase 4 are scheduled to begin on Friday, August 3.
Work will begin on the north side of N 85th St near Aurora Ave N to rebuild the westbound curb lane in concrete, and will continue to progress east.Storm drain improvements will also be constructed at Nesbit Ave N, Stone Ave N, and Ashworth Ave N intersections.
Eastbound detours will continue to use Greenwood Ave N and N 80th St through the end of October when work is expected to wrap up in this phase.
To keep traffic and transit moving during eastbound detours, left turns are being restricted from N 80th St to Aurora Ave N and parking changes have been made between Linden Ave N and Burke Ave N.
Phase 5 – Wallingford Ave N to I-5
Construction activities and eastbound closures in Phase 5 are anticipated to begin on Friday, August 3. This work will close access to the north and southbound I-5 on- ramp at N 85th St until the end of August. Drivers should access north- and southbound I-5 via N 80th St to Banner Way NE or via N 105th St.
The southbound I-5 off-ramp to N 85th St is scheduled to close Friday, August 10 at 10 p.m. through Monday morning, August 27. Drivers should exit I-5 at N 80th St or N 105th St during this closure.
Multiple weekend closures of the northbound I-5 off-ramp to N 85th St and the Banner Way NE overpass are anticipated in August; dates to be determined. Drivers should exit I-5 at N 105th St or N 50th St during these closures.
