Suspect arrested in Carkeek Park assault

Seattle Police have arrested a 19-year-old man for Investigation of Attempted Rape after he allegedly assaulted a female runner in Carkeek Park on Monday morning. The man was arrested yesterday by Sexual Assault detectives and patrol officers in North Seattle, then booked into the King County Jail.
According to the SPD Blotter, the man was sitting on a bench in the park when the female runner passed by him twice on her morning run.

The suspect then attacked the victim from behind, putting her in a neck hold. A serious struggle ensued. The victim was able to fight the suspect off however, she did sustain abrasions to the right side of her neck, a scratch under her chin, and scrapes on her lower legs. She was treated by fire department personnel at the scene and released.
The suspect was gone upon the officers’ arrival.
