Hot on the heels of Bluebird ice cream’s announcement that it was expanding from Capitol Hill to Fremont, Bluebird tells us it is also opening a “microcreamy” in Phinney Ridge. Bluebird will move into the space formerly occupied by Zak and Zoe dog boutique, at 7400 Greenwood Ave. N.
Bluebird, which opened on Capitol Hill in January 2009 and has garnered national press, makes small batches of ice cream from local (and organic, when possible) sources, such as Remlinger Farms and Elysian Brewing.
Owner Josh Reynolds told us he’s excited to share a corner with Caffe Vita, Herkimer Coffee and 74th St. Alehouse. In fact, Bluebird and Caffe Vita will be connected internally, and a large outdoor patio will be built along the back of the building, spanning Bluebird, Caffe Vita and the new Cornuto pizzeria.
“We’ll be pouring shots of Vita’s coffee over scoops if you order your ice cream affogato, and (Cornuto pizzeria) will be scooping Bluebird ice cream on their dessert menu,” Reynolds said. “We are incredibly excited to open our doors, and beyond our new business neighbors, we can’t wait to meet the people who live and work in the neighborhood. It’s such a diverse part of town: from 20 somethings, to young families, to lifers, we’re so glad to be a part of it.”
Bluebird will also start up a small “nano-brewing” operation to brew gourmet sodas and ales for ice cream floats, as well as filling growlers for home.
