The Greenwood-Phinney Chamber of Commerce introduced its new officers at its monthly meeting last Friday. The new president is Prashanthi Reddy, owner of Makeda Coffee; Shane Toupal, owner of Bleachers Pub, is vice-president; Liesl Mordhorst of Alpine Mortgage is secretary; and Elisa Miller, manager of the BECU branch inside Safeway at Greenwood and 87th, is treasurer.

The Chamber used to have its office inside the Neighborhood Service Center at 8515 Greenwood Ave. N. But since the NSC closed on Jan. 1 due to city budget cuts, the Chamber will be moving into the Green Bean Coffeehouse, at 8533 Greenwood Ave. N. The Chamber’s office is still being remodeled, but will be open for business on Jan. 11.
Also at Friday’s Chamber meeting, students from Daniel Bagley Elementary gave a presentation on the school’s Green Field Project, which would replace the school’s mostly asphalt playground with grass, trees and other plantings, and a running track. The fifth-grade students from the student government team explained that the asphalt playground is not safe, and presented statistics on injuries. One student even showed off his scraped-up knee from falling on the asphalt.

The Green Field project is in its last fundraising push. They’re selling donor Finish Line Bricks for $250 for individuals, or $500 for a business.
