Hundreds welcome food bank to new home

by | Jun 12, 2010

Hundreds of people turned out tonight to celebrate the grand opening of the new Volunteers of America’s Community Resource Center, which houses the Greenwood Food Bank, Senior Companion Program, and Disability Services.

The three programs used to be in separate buildings. Now they’re all housed together at 9041 Greenwood Ave. N., just a few blocks south of where the food bank used to be.

A live band entertained the crowd, and local celebrity chef Tom Douglas stopped by to pan sear some salmon. Here he tells KING 5 Photojournalist Tait Miller that he loves working with the food bank because it’s all about helping neighbors.

Art was hung in several areas of the building, as the Community Resource Center served as the very northern end of tonight’s Art Up Artwalk.
