Morris Dancers celebrate May Day

by | May 1, 2010

Practitioners of Morris Dancing, a traditional English folk dance, were out in force this morning to welcome the sun.

“Morris Dancers, wherever they are in the world, on May Day, they’re up before dawn to dance the sun up,” explained Sound and Fury organizer Dave Sielaff. This group started their day welcoming in the morning at Gas Works Park in Fremont. Then they decided to stop outside Woodland Park Zoo to do an impromptu performance before heading off to Seattle Tilth’s edible plant sale in Wallingford.

Here’s Sound and Fury caught in mid-move,

and here’s North By Northwest.
