Geoff Wall, founder of Greenwood Soccer in the 1970s, has been nominated for a Sounders FC Golden Scarf award, for helping hundreds of children learn the sport of soccer.
This is from P. Scott Cummins’ nominating letter:
Before the SYSA, there was Geoff Wall organizing soccer games for kids. He ran a program called “Greenwood Soccer” – it was THE soccer league in northwest Seattle. He put together rag tag groups of kids and turned them into teams with his inimitable style. Several of his players, like his own son, went on to college and the pros (I was one of those kids). We learned many valuable lessons about life through soccer from Mr. Wall.
Wall’s son, Geoff Wall Jr., went on to play pro soccer for the Tacoma Stars and Sounders. Here’s a picture of Wall Jr. (on the left) from the 1984-85 season with the Tacoma Stars.
