It’s time for an update on all the events and people raising money for the Greenwood Fire Relief Fund, to help victims of the months-long arson spree.
Taproot Theatre, which was heavily damaged in the Oct. 23 arson, and whose four business tenants in the adjacent Eleanor Roosevelt Building lost everything, staged a reading of its planned Christmas show, “Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Christmas Carol” at Seattle Pacific University last Friday and Saturday. The readings were free, but audience members donated $2,160 for the fire relief fund at Chase Bank. (Taproot’s replacement Christmas show, a revival of their popular “It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play” is now playing at North Seattle Community College.)
St. John School had a bake sale just before Thanksgiving and raised $585.80 for the GFRF. The kids who came up with the idea will be taking the check to Chase bank on Tuesday after school.
Neptune Coffee’s recent Seinfeld Trivia Night raised $100 for the fund.
A group of neighbors have teamed up with Upper Crust Catering to host a silent auction on Friday, Dec. 18. All proceeds benefit the GFRF. Area businesses have donated great items, so you can do your last-minute Christmas shopping. The auction is from 7-9 p.m. at Upper Crust, at the corner of 85th and Greenwood. Cost is $5 (kids are free). For that you get a little wine and nibbles, and there’s raffles, prizes and live music by local singer/songwriter Ali Marcus. Auction items include gift certificates to a number of local businesses (including photography sessions, dinners, massage therapy), and items such as printers, books and clothing. Karma by the Cup, the little walk up/drive-thru espresso stand next to the laundromat at 333 NW 85th St., is donating 5 percent of their profits this quarter to the GFRF.
The Greenwood Senior Center is hosting its Alternative Gift Fair from 1-8 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 14th. The GFRF is one of the fair’s non-profit beneficiaries.
Peet’s Coffee & Tea in Interbay has chosen the GFRF as its Holiday non-profit.
Q Cafe in Interbay will donate 10 percent of its January sales to the Green Bean.
