Couth Buzzard ‘Gets Jesse’ to get rid of old phone booth

by | Sep 18, 2009

The Couth Buzzard bookstore is working hard on its new space at 8310 Greenwood Ave. N. When I stopped by this morning, co-owner Theo Dzielak said they’re still on track for opening at the beginning of November.
But one thing about the new place had been bothering him: the old, empty phone booth on the sidewalk outside. Covered in graffitti and no longer housing a phone, the booth was an eyesore. He didn’t know how to get rid of it, so he called consumer advocate Jesse Jones at KING 5 news through the “Get Jesse” tipline. Jesse contacted the booth’s owners (which had changed hands since US West became Qwest, which then sold all the booths to an out-of-state company), and practically overnight the booth was gone.
You can see Jesse Jones’ full report here. He’s asking for the public to let him know about other unused phone booths, so he can send a full removal request list to the Chicago company.
